Tuesday 25th day of October 2016 was the day which brings women from all dimensions to participate in a one-day Town Hall Meeting organized by OCCEN in collaboration with Centre for Centre Studies (CGS) Bayero University, Kano with the sole aim of strengthening young women participation in politics. Addressing social norms and public perception on young women are one of OCCEN’s priorities considering the conservative nature of northern Nigeria were women find it difficult to have voice in public space and policy discussion. OCCEN deliberately designed and organized this event to check and dismantle the social barriers working against women participation in politics and public discuss with men, by bringing together representatives of women leaders, girls, and policy makers in town hall discussion in order to set new agenda for strengthening young women participation in politics and breaking the barriers for women and girls participation in policy issues. OCCEN do believed that hindering factors to full young women participation in politics are man-made and they need to be discuss in town hall setting and can be address through challenging the process and awareness rising.
